Tree removal

Big trees, especially those in older areas of Canberra, are beautiful. That is, until they grow into power lines or their root systems wreak havoc with your plumbing.

Healthy trees bring life and colour to your property, but dead or damaged trees can become dangerous. We try to retain trees wherever possible, but sometimes the need to remove a tree is unavoidable.

  • Storm damage can weaken the structural integrity of a tree, making it unstable
  • Infection with disease or pest infestation can make a tree hazardous
  • Overgrown root systems can cause problems with underground pipes or your home’s foundations.

If your tree is affected by a potential hazard to your safety, it’s smart to remove it before it becomes an emergency.

Tree removal in the Australian Capital Territory

If you live in Canberra or other parts of the ACT, you need government approval to remove some trees. Most trees in our region are protected under the Tree Protection Act 2005.

You need approval for work that could damage these trees, such as tree removal, major pruning or lopping, and groundwork near a regulated or registered tree. To get approval, click here to download a Tree Damaging Activity form and complete the Application.

We can help you navigate the application process before starting tree removal work by:

  • inspecting your tree to assess requirements
  • determining whether the required work is within the guidelines of the Tree Protection Act
  • providing you with a no-obligation quote to undertake the work
  • assisting you in lodging relevant paperwork with ACT Government if you decide to go ahead.
